Options Positioning & Max Pain History / methodology notes

How Position Archive calculates your result

Inspect user-owned open-interest snapshots, reproduce max-pain calculations, and compare history only when expiry, timestamp, and data rights align.

Start with evidence, not a score

Use only data you are entitled to analyze. Record underlying, expiry, snapshot date, multiplier, and source, with duplicate-strike checks. Sum intrinsic call and put payouts across strikes and identify the minimum among observed settlement strikes. Preserve ties and the no-open-interest state.

Read the assumptions

Compare only matching expiry snapshots. Keep volume separate from open interest, and never interpret max pain as a forecast. No production data ingestion or public redistribution is authorized by this application. Licensing, completeness, contract conventions, and timestamp verification are required.

Use a reproducible workflow

Enter your own measurements or import records using the published CSV schema. Save a local scenario before making a change, compare the result, and export a copy with the assumptions intact. Example inputs are not a verified catalog or a live data feed. The source references explain the underlying terminology; they do not independently verify information you enter.
